Industrialization ruined the way humans were meant to live. We took people off the land and put them in factories. We replaced local farms with industrial food systems. We replaced craftsmen with mass production. We replaced tight-knit villages with overcrowded cities. We replaced sunlight with artificial lighting. Movement with sitting. Real food with processed food. Community with isolation. Nature with concrete. And eventually, God with endless consumption. We were told this was “progress.” Work more. Produce more. Consume more. Build more. Make everything faster, cheaper and more convenient. But somewhere along the way, we completely disconnected ourselves from what actually makes us human. Most people don’t know where their food comes from. They don’t know their neighbours. They barely spend time outside. They spend most of their lives indoors, staring at screens, eating food made in factories and working jobs completely disconnected from the physical world around them. And we call this advanced society. I think industrialization solved certain problems while creating a way of life fundamentally disconnected from how humans were designed to live. I don’t want more industrialization. I want more farms. More local food. More craftsmen. More self-sufficiency. More families together. More villages. More time outside. More real community. More connection to God and creation. Maybe the future we need isn’t another giant leap forward. Maybe it’s a return to everything we left behind.
