As someone who cares deeply about my health, this is my story of how I escaped the algorithm. The past 4 years I have been building consumer tech apps. I wanted to learn how to make them better. I read the book “Hooked” three times. And learned the truth. Like cigarette scientists working for ultra-processed food companies to get you addicted, These companies have used psychological principles to get you addicted to their apps. They make money through ads. And the more ads they sell, the more money they make, so they are incentivized to get you hooked. Good or bad, if you look, you’re hooked. Violence, negative news, pre-porn, and other toxic temptations REEL you in. Infinite scrolls spike dopamine, making you addicted. Blue light raises cortisol, keeping you focused. Trending audio puts you in a trance-like state. TikTok goes the clock... Like casino slots, you don’t know how much time goes by, nor what programming went into your mind. They got you... It works. 91% of people use it daily. That’s addiction. When I realized this, I deleted all of it. Not just the apps, my entire accounts. But I missed the good stuff. The health content that made me better. So instead of going back to get controlled by the algorithm, I built an alternative platform where health creators share just the good without the bad. Break free from the algorithm and join Upspace today.
